Topic: Health adaptation to climate change in Africa: Unpackaging results from a stakeholder mapping exercise in East and Southern Africa

SpeakersJulian Natukunda and Sari Kovats Centre of Climate Change and Planetary Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

Brief description:

Climate change is already affecting the health of populations in Southern and Eastern Africa and there is an urgent need to develop adaptation strategies. This presentation will discuss the adaptation priorities for the health sector from a document review of national adaptation policies in countries in East and Southern Africa. Stakeholder mapping was undertaken to identify key partnerships and barriers to adaptation planning. Climate-sensitive diseases and managing heat risks will be discussed as specific examples of adaptation policies. The research was undertaken as part of the ENBEL project.

The presentation will be followed by an interactive reflection.

Date: 22nd February 2023

Time: 10.00 - 11.00 CAT / 11.00 - 12.00 EAT / 8.00-9.00 GMT
